Earle was a caring son. When his mother came to visit, he knew he couldn’t leave her at home with his wife while he was at work—they simply did not like one another. So what does one do? You bring her with you to the office. But instead of having her sit in his own office, he plopped her down on the couch in our reception area, a few feet from our receptionist, Linda. It wasn’t a huge reception area. Linda was close enough to Earle’s mom that she felt an obligation to chat with her. Unfortunately, Earle’s mom wasn’t quite all there. She barely said two words during the many hours she sat there looking at Linda.
