Our Engineers in Media Services repaired quite a bit of audio-visual equipment on campus. To do so required replacement parts, some of which were available in town at a store called Standard Radio. Frequently, Earle would make the trip downtown rather than send a student worker to pick up the parts. While not very far, only a 5 minute drive, these trips often took an hour or two before Earle returned. I never understood why until one day I was making a rare trip from the south side of town back to campus. It happened to be that I passed by Standard Radio. It sat on one corner of an intersection. Across the street was a tavern. Aha! Now I understood.
