Dr. Olysha Magruder is the Interim Assistant Dean, Learning Design and Innovation in the Center for Learning Design and Technology, Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. She leads a team of learning design professionals who design and develop courses for over 24 master’s degree programs and other engineering programs. She also leads the Faculty Forward Academy, which provides workshops, webinars, courses, and programs to engineering faculty.

Kimberly Barss is an instructional designer in the Center for Learning Design and Technology, Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.  She has over 10 years’ experience as an instructional designer and has focused her career on leveraging Open Educational Resources, technology, and authentic learning experiences for online teaching and learning.

Shaping the future of online learning begins with a focus on best practices in online teaching.  This session provides an overview of the Excellence in Online Teaching project, a grant-funded project aimed at doing just that.  We take a three-pronged approach including a MOOC, an online symposium, and a certificate of completion program.
