In 2019, higher education was urged by three national associations to commit to the use of data-driven decision-making (The Joint Statement on Analytics, updated 2022). Conversations about data analytics point to large amounts of wasted data. Let’s look at data analytics from a micro perspective and discuss data that often goes unused in online courses. How can instructors better use data to make decisions and adjustments that impact student learning? In this session, we will examine LMS data on student behavior and interactions that can help instructors improve online course communication and engagement. We will identify patterns in student feedback from surveys and course evaluations that can provide insight into student learning and areas to improve instruction and teaching effectiveness.
