Whether a course is an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ full of discovery or a ‘Wizard of Oz’ paved with easy-to-follow yellow bricks, pathways should thoughtfully lead students through course materials in order to successfully and efficiently achieve course objectives. While Learning Management Systems (e.g., Blackboard) seemingly dictate course design, this workshop presents foundational principles which are conceived to empower anyone to create functional pathways within any LMS. In Designing Pathways for Student Success, attendees will interact with sample materials, discuss, and dream in order to achieve the following goals:

  • create thoughtful visions of how students navigate coursework
  • experience an online lesson built using different pathway models
  • apply LMS-agnostic principles for designing course pathways
