The Evolution of Education: How Instructors Can Adapt to Today’s Dynamic Learning Demands

This session examines modern educational trends challenging traditional higher ed, including Competency-Based Education, personalized learning, and AI integration. Participants will identify essential skills instructors need and develop strategies to adapt their teaching methods. The focus is on practical approaches for navigating these trends in various content areas, emphasizing adaptability and innovation in pedagogy.

Patrick is the Director of the Office of Digital Teaching & Learning at Loyola University Maryland. He has an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, an M.B.A. in Organizational Management, an M.Div. in Professional Ministries, and M.A. in Pastoral Counseling. He has published and presented widely on all aspects of instructional design, the role of AI in education, communities of inquiry and transformative learning, and quality assurance across the curriculum. He is the author of Creating Transformative Online Communities in Higher Education (2021) and co-author of the chapter: Trauma Informed Course Design: Using neurobiological frameworks to understand the impacts of trauma and remove barriers to learning (2023).
