Bob Hails has been a distance education professional since 1976.  During that time, he has started distance education programs at two universities and substantially grown programs at two others.  He also has led a broadcast-quality media production unit and, currently, is the Distance Learning Coordinator in the Office of the Chancellor for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE).

In 1988, Bob organized the first state-wide videoconference on distance education in Ohio.  The one-day conference was delivered to 12 sites scattered around the state.  Since then, he has organized several conferences focused on distance education and instructional technology, including the Southern Educational Technology Conference.  Most recently, he founded the “Transforming the Teaching & Learning Environment: the PASSHE Virtual Conference.”  Now in its 5th year, the conference’s 60 one-hour sessions are delivered totally online.

Bob’s professional interests include distance education (duh!), technology-enhanced learning, classroom design, videoconferencing, and emerging technologies.
